Registration is open for the 2013 EHOVE Aircraft Rescue Training Expo in Mansfield, Ohio. You only have until July 14th to register. The event's registration has been light and cancellation is possible without more enrollment.

The Sandusky Fire Department shared some information about the Great Lake rip currents the other day. It just so happens that the weather is right and a North East blow is making the southern shore of Lake Erie treacherous today in our area (Huron, OH - halfway between Cleveland and Toldeo).

Here are some photos and a drill description from a task force (MI-TF1) exercise last week. The task was to shore a sloped (lean-to) floor. They used Paratech equipment.

One of the Milton, Ontario Fire Department crews set up a scenario where they had to rescue a “patient” from the bottom of the cliff… but they had to go through and around several trees at the edge of the cliff. Rattlesnake point (where they get most of their rope calls has some pretty tricky edges with overhangs and trees ...

The scenario is a husband and wife are snaking the basement floor drain and the husband sticks his arm down the drain hole to clear some debris when the wife turns the snake on. The husband becomes entrapped in the snake and the drain. So we have to cut the concrete to get the pipe out... then dissect the pipe... then cut his finger out of the auger.

Here are a couple pictures (BC Curt Isacson) from a wreck the Escambia County (FL) Fire Department had the other day. You can see the vehicle ended up down a ravine on its side. It looks like they used struts for stabilization.

Last night in Gibsonburg, Ohio a simulated distressed diver training scenario was conducted.  It took place at Whitestar Quarry, which is an excellent place to dive and learn to dive.  Many of us have been there numerous times.  Each year it seems that there is some sort of diver related emergency and local first responders need to be ready. The Weather Channel's Mike Bettes and his crew made a serious mistake and were in the direct path of one of Oklahoma's tornados last night. Reports have them being tossed several hundred and rolling a couple times. It sounds like they are all ok.

Day 1 in the classroom for the Heavy Rescue class at the 2013 BGSU State Fire School has come and gone. Part of the crew was at the HOT training group prepping the pits for the rest of the week.
