Setting up your trench equipment in a maintenance pit can be a good review or introduction for some. Couple pics here.

Think about how you would go about rescue if people were in these cars. Extrication, trench rescue, USAR, ladders, ropes, high-lines, etc. Also below is a previous post about a sinkhole rescue in Toledo, OH. Be sure to check it out.

Our test results showed that this entire shoring system catastrophically failed (with very little warning) after just a few hundred pounds of force was applied. No where near the 7680 pounds of potential force that this end wall shore was attempting to resist.

Screw jacks are very versatile and pretty inexpensive as well. In a rescue email group today we started discussing screw jacks in the trench environment.
