Perkins Township Firefighter Brian Hackenburg is going to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for fastest half marathon in a Firefighter's Uniform this Sunday December 15, 2013 at 0900 hours. The race is the Santa Hustle in Sandusky, OH.
Hack's a swimming, biking, and running maniac in general, but the cause is for the National Firefighter Endowment Turnout Challenge. It's a project to raise funds for fire departments in need of equipment. So far this year with the help of firefighters from around the country, over $9,000 has been raised.

There is a lot that goes into a World Record attempt. Here are a few of the requirements.
- Everything has to be approved by Guinness, i.e. gear, boots, helmet, gloves.
- The entire race has to be recorded. The race directors allowed for two bicycles to follow Brian with cameras.
- Two independant witnesses are needed. Specifically, two runners that can keep up for the entire race.
